PROS
Jumps n’ Jiggles is one of my favorite rainy day activities. It is inexpensive, unique and fun for toddlers of all ages.
The main room contains an area up front with toys for the young tots. Sometimes there is a little playhouse, a mini slide, a cushioned ramp for crawling and sliding, oversized blocks/bricks, a Little Tikes Cozy Coupe, small teeter totter toys, and an activity cube. Toward the back of the room is a maze of tunnels for older toddlers and children. There is a spiral slide and several play helicopters connected to the tunnels. Even before my son could climb into the tunnels, he enjoyed sitting in the helicopter located at floor level.
The second room contains a large carousel of horses and benches. Admission to Jumps n’ Jiggles includes unlimited carousel rides. Each horse has a seatbelt that must be worn by all riders. Caretakers are allowed to stand by the horses and hold onto small riders, so even the younger tots can enjoy it! Around the carousel are tables, chairs and a stack of high chairs. My son and I usually bring a sack lunch or snacks with us.
CONS
The only downside to this place is its hours. There have been days when they’ve allowed us to come back with our admission stickers in the afternoon, from 1 – 3 p.m., but most of the time it closes at noon. This makes it difficult if you don’t live close to the facility, or if you and your little ones are late risers (I wish!).
UPDATE: Jumps n Jiggles is now open from 1 - 3 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays! If you come in the morning, you have to leave from 12 - 1 p.m., but you can re-enter without paying again.
LOGISTICS
As for logistics, when you arrive at the Jack A. Claes Pavilion, stop at the front desk to pay and receive your admission stickers. (Check out www.oakleesguide.com/coupons.html for coupons. Sometimes they offer a buy one, get one free deal.) Since the Pavilion is a large facility, ask for directions to the Jumps n’ Jiggles room if you’ve never visited before. Please note that kids must take off their shoes and wear socks at all times when playing. You can bring your stroller if you’d like, and park it inside the main room. However, on occasion Jumps n’ Jiggles can get crowded. One time I was even denied access due to too many people, but on most days, it’s been very comfortable.
The staff at the Pavilion are very friendly. I was given a free pass once because it was closed in early January when we came to play. If you live outside Elk Grove Village like me, I would suggest you call ahead to confirm it will be open. I’d also suggest you arrive as close to 10 a.m. as possible just in case it gets crowded.
Jumps n’ Jiggles also is available for group rentals and birthday parties. Call 847-228-3490 or visit their party page (http://www.elkgroveparks.org/birthdayParties.asp) for more information.
